save energy dollars
Can I Save Money?
Yes you can. The utility savings of each home will vary depending on certain factors such as the size of your home, geographical location, attic ventilation, how well built the home is, whether or not the home is properly insulated, and the efficiency of the heating and a/c equipment, to name a few. All factors considered you can experience savings up to 55%. Below are some points from a radiant barrier study done by the Tennesse Value Authority on utility bill savings you can expect.
* The radiant barrier placed on top of the attic floor insulation was the best summer performer. It consistently showed heat flux reductions compared to the non-radiant barrier test case of about 40% for almost all ambient tempatures and even showed savings of 17% during mild tempatures and summer nights.
* All the radiant barrier configurations tested yielded sizable percent savings and statistically significant reductions in summer attic heat transfer compared to the non-radiant barrier test case. Also, as the ambient tempature increased, the savings also increased.
Here is a breakdown in percentages of how an average size home in the south uses an energy dollar.
- 55% is spent on heating and a/c.
- 20% is spent on water heating.
- 16% is spent on lights, TV, freezer, refrigerator.
- 9% is spent on cooking, washer-dryer, dishwasher.
It is clear to see that reducing your heating and a/c cost will cut the biggest part of your utility bill and the best way to do that is by adding the radiant barrier. We also offer hot water heater wraps to help with your water heating cost.
